Janet's Blog - Autumn 2026
After a fabulous summer we’ve certainly been having a lovely autumn.
At the end of the summer the trees all looked to sad and droughted, but that bit of rain we did have has perked them up and instead of an early autumn we definitely seem to be having a gloriously late one.
The fruit trees at home have been a bit different this year, dropping most of their fruit early on, which caught us out a bit. We did manage to pick some apples – and there began the autumnal apple crumble making marathon. Spurred on by my offer of “if you peel and chop them, I’ll turn them into crumbles”, Daughter No 1 and Grandma (she’s 88 but you wouldn’t know it) broke out the apple peeler corer (if you haven’t got one – you need one!!) and the chopping board and went for it. Two hours later and we were the proud owners of 8 apple crumbles, 3 apple pies, 2 apple sponges and one Grandma with a sore belly (I thought Daughter No 1 was joking when she said Grandma was sabotaging her efforts by eating half the apples). To say our family are keen apple crumble eaters is an understatement and as I write this blog they have single handedly demolished the lot. My preferred autumn fruit on the other hand is the damson – great for jam and even better for damson gin!!
At the marina the summer rush has calmed a little. Quite a lot of people are out cruising which is lovely to see and my nephew has come up from London to help with the jetty board replacements – a fun job which seems to go on forever. He’s getting very handy with the nail gun and is also a pleasure to have around so if you see him out on the jetties do say hello. Out on site our lovely caravan site warden Suzanne got married. Sadly Angus and I were unable to attend due to a prior engagement but I believe the day went off very well with lots of love and whiskey!
In the office we’re getting to grips with a couple of new systems and Carol is gleefully ordering lots and lots of Christmas goodies – they all look so lovely I’m planning my Christmas shopping at Overwater this year – not far to travel, hardly any queues and a great place to get a coffee and cake while you do it – what’s not to like!!
